Lisbon 〰️ Portugal 〰️

Lisbon is a city full of hills and steps. So be prepared to walk. But nestled away in those hills are so many amazing eateries and places to eat and drink coffee, wine and any other other beverage you can think of. Here is my subjective guide to the amazing capital of Portugal.

Cafes

Dramatico - Rua da Alegria

Well worth the walk up a steep hill, Dramatico is a small and inspiring esprsso bar, offering coffee from La Cabra. It’s a one person run cafe and is the type you can go back to day after day (except for weekends when they are closed).

Neighbourhood - Multiple Locations

Australia meets Lisbon. With brunch offerings that really do make me feel like I’m back home. The breakfast burrito is a must order.

The Folks - Multiple Locations

A focus of different and extravagant interiors at each location, The Folks offers great coffee and food.

Manteigaria - Multiple Locations

When in Portugal, Portuguese tarts are an absolute MUST try and try again every day you are there. Manteigaria is my pick, with two locations to choose from.

Restaurants and Bars

Taberna Sal Grosso Alfama - Calçada do Forte

A family fun spot for traditional Portuguese cuisine, huge portions and very well priced. It’s a tiny restaurant, so be sure to book in advance with seatings staggered every couple of hours. The octopus on sweet potato puree could be one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

Bonjaradim - Tv. de Santo Antão

Portuguese tarts are a must when in Portugal, naturally - and so is Portuguese chicken. Bonjaradim is your spot. Traditional, old school and just perfect.

Boavista Social Club - Rua da Boavista

A great spot for a wine or cocktail, featuring records being spun. Great tapas, too.

Tricky’s - Rua da Boavista

Situated right across the road from the above Boavista Social Club, Tricky’s is a super fun place to enjoy dinner, great wine and music - and even dance if you fancy it.

Bom Bom Bom - R. Angelina Vidal

A wine bar with a deep selection of wine and snacks on offer as well as live music. It’s a great place to sit inside to enjoy the tunes, or outside to people-watch. It also serves as a record store.

Musa - Calçada de Salvador

A micro brewery overlooking the busy main road of Rua da Boavista with many beers on tap to enjoy. A really great place to hang with friends and watch the afternoon go by.

Prado - Tv. das Pedras Negras

Fine dining and thoughtful farm-to-table food served as a set menu. Prado also has another location and wine bar called Prado Wine Bar, of course, worth checking out.

The Bifanas of Afonso - R. da Madalena

Another specialty of Portugal is the Bifanas, a pork sandwiched inside heated crusty white bread. Delicious and this is my spot to get one.
